Weight Loss & GLP-1 Support

Support for sustainable weight loss and metabolic health — whether you are pursuing a natural approach, using a GLP-1 medication, or somewhere in between.

Who this is for

You may be struggling with weight that hasn’t responded to diet and exercise, managing related metabolic concerns like blood sugar or cholesterol, or looking for a more structured and sustainable path forward.

Some patients come having already tried GLP-1 medications like Ozempic or Mounjaro and want support alongside them. Others are looking for a natural approach and want to understand what is actually driving their weight before reaching for medication.

What is common to both groups is a sense that something is being missed — that standard advice has not been enough, or that the full picture has not been considered.

This area is central to my practice.

How it tends to show up

Gradual weight gain (often around the midsection) despite consistent effort, afternoon energy crashes, persistent sugar cravings, poor sleep, difficulty building or retaining muscle, or bloodwork showing rising insulin, HbA1c, triglycerides, or cholesterol.

Some patients arrive having been told their results are “normal” while still feeling that something is clearly off. Others are on GLP-1 medications and experiencing appetite changes, GI discomfort, or uncertainty about how to support their body through the process.

A personal or family history of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or metabolic syndrome is common.

What we might look at

We look at metabolic patterns rather than isolated numbers. Weight that resists change is rarely just about calories — it is often connected to how the body regulates blood sugar and insulin, how stress and cortisol affect fat storage, thyroid function, inflammatory load, gut health, sleep quality, and nutrient status.

For patients using GLP-1 medications, we look at the full picture of how your body is responding and where naturopathic support can complement your care. For those pursuing a natural approach, we focus on identifying the underlying factors that have made weight loss difficult and building a plan around them.

The goal is to understand why the body is responding the way it is — and where the highest-yield opportunities for change actually exist.

What working together looks like

Care is practical, data-informed, and focused on clarity.

  • We start with a thorough intake to understand your history, what you’ve already tried, and what matters most to you.

  • From there, we identify which investigations are worth doing and build a plan around nutrition, lifestyle, and botanical medicine — one that fits your situation, whether or not medication is part of it.

  • Progress is tracked, the plan adapts based on your response, and decisions are evidence based and collaborative.

  • Where GLP-1 medications are involved, naturopathic care works alongside your prescribing physician, not in place of it.

The aim is not short-term restriction. It is improved metabolic flexibility, sustainable body composition, stable energy, and long-term confidence in your health.

Why this matters

Obesity is now recognized as a progressive chronic disease — not a lifestyle failure. It is shaped by biology, environment, stress, sleep, hormones, environmental inputs, and a complicated food system. And it is one of the most consequential drivers of chronic illness in Canada.

  • 1 in 3 Canadian adults now lives with obesity — up from 1 in 5 two decades ago. In Ontario alone, that represents over 3.5 million people (Statistics Canada, 2024).

  • Nearly 1 in 2 Canadian adults has abdominal obesity — excess fat around the midsection that independently raises the risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic syndrome, even in those with a normal BMI (Statistics Canada, 2024).

  • The sharpest rise is among adults under 40 — obesity rates in young adult males increased from 22% to 33% between 2016–19 and 2022–24. This is not a condition of old age (Statistics Canada, 2024).

  • Obesity is a strong predictor of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, liver disease, kidney disease, sleep apnea, and certain cancers. The longer excess weight persists, the greater the cumulative health burden — independent of current weight.

Properly implemented naturopathic care — nutrition, lifestyle counselling, botanical, and nutraceutical support — is among the most evidence-supported approaches to improving metabolic health and reducing disease progression.

Naturopathic care complements your weight loss goals and supports your health, whether you’re choosing GLP-1’s to help reach your goals or not.
